Pro Life Philosophy By Peter Kreeft Essay - 1827 Words

In â€Å"Pro-Life Philosophy†, Peter Kreeft argues that abortion should be illegal to protect the rights of the weak and innocent. His argument states that 1) it is wrong to deliberately kill an innocent person, 2) an unborn human being is an innocent human person and an abortion is a deliberate killing of that person, therefore, 3) abortion is always wrong. Part of Kreeft’s argument rests on the premise that a fetus is a person, this premise has been highly debated in abortion literature and Kreeft’s argument is weak in light of criticism presented regarding the right to life. Regardless of the truth of this premise, Kreeft’s argument still falls short. Kreeft’s condemnation of all abortions as deliberate killings can be refuted by the definition of an intentional killing and a look at the application of this definition. His argument ultimately does not stand up to criticism. The backbone of Kreeft’s argument focuses on the concept of deliberately killing an innocent person. He defines this as â€Å"intentionally; that is, knowingly and willingly†¦ forc[ing] death upon by an act of violence†¦a person that does not deserve death† (Kreeft, 1). Kreeft claims that deliberately killing an innocent person is always wrong. This claim is also found in the doctrine of double effect which maintains that intentionally killing any innocent person is always impermissible. This claim is supported by examples provided by Baruch Brody in his essay â€Å"Opposition to Abortion: A Human Rights Approach†.

Othello Is a Play About the Desperate Need for Certainty Free Essays

Othello is a play about the desperate need for certainty The theme of certainty pervades the play from the opening scence, and as it progresses, the quest for certainty becomes more desperate and frantic; not only within the minds and actions of the characters, but also within the audience as we become desperate to know and understand the outcome of Iago’s malicous plan. Shakespeare introduces the protaginist, Othello, to the audience through the malicious and predujiced tongues of Iago, Roderigo and Brabantio. Iago condemns Othello for favouritism and shows obscenley to Brabantio that Othello is an ‘old black ram’, the ‘devil’, a ‘barbary horse’ copulating with his daughter. We will write a custom essay sample on Othello Is a Play About the Desperate Need for Certainty or any similar topic only for you Order Now Rodergio too describes him as a ‘lascivious moor’ and ‘an extravagent and wheeling stranger. ’ This causes Brabantio to feel certian that Othello, repulsive in his blackness, must have seduced Desdemona by withcraft, magic spells or drugs. The picture echoes aspects of medevil and Elizabethan traditions about the devilish, cruel and lustful nature of moors, and Brabantio would most certainly rather believe these acceptable truths as opposed to reality- his ‘pure’ and virginal daughter is partaking in a sordid affair. Othello’s own desperate plea for certainty is also evident from the offset. Although he refuses to hide from Branbantio and denounce his frabrications, he suggests that Desdemona should testify freely how their love came about. Some may argue that Othello holds a number of insecurities about himself and this is a prime example of him desperatly needing Desdemona to justify her reasoning for marrying him. After all, he displays an incredible vulnaribilty, ‘a free and open nature, that thinks men honest that but seem to be so. ’ Iago works on these traits and his pretended disapproval of the relations between Cassio and Desdemona rouses Othello’s curiosity, thence his insistance that he be told, and finally his fear that Iago’s information, got in his duty as an honest man, will harm him. At first, Othello appears to be confident of Desdemona’s love for him as he declares she ‘had eyes and chose me’. Iago however finds weakness in Othello’s certainty and seizing his oppurtunity, advises Othello to watch Cassio and Desdemona discreetly. He adds that, of his own well-founded knowledge, Venetian wives decieve their husbands; that Desdemona pretended to fear Othello, when in fact she loved him, and that she decieved her father so completley that he believed she was bewitched. Unable to deny these, Othello draws the disturbing inference. Suspicion takes root, and is revealed by his hesitant ‘I do not think Desdemona’s honest’, and his command that Emilia be set to watch Desdemona. He is desperate to find truth, and underlying doubts about his marriage may have escelated by Iago’s revelation and Othello is eventually driven to find this certianty in his own shortcomings- his blackness, age and unpolished manners. Iago’s evil has infiltrated Othello’s soul and has induced him, as Iago had hoped, ‘to renounce his baptism, all seals and symbols of redemmed sin. The noble image that Desdemona saw in Othello’s mind has become corrupted, and and not before long is he humiliating her through false prophecy, and he fails to see the unreason of punishing Desdemona for a crime she has not commited. In the end, Othello is desperate to relieve himself of all guilt and is certain the the demi-devil has ‘ensnared’ his soul and body. Desdemona is another charcter who clings desperatly on to her certainty that Othello is a kind and loving husband. Out of her generosity and loving-kindness, she continually makes excuses for Othello’s harshness: ‘some unhatched practice†¦ ath puddles his clear spirit’- an ironic perception. Othello’s vision of her is utterly distorted; and she in her faith and certianty to him is unable to percieve his spiritual overthrough. His fierce accusations that she is unchaste and a whore she meets by affirming that she is a ‘true and loyal wife’, and desperatly wants Othello to believe in this certainty. In her innocece, she finds it impossible to believe that there are women who are unfaithful to their husbands in spite of Emilia’s down to earth admission. In the last dreadful scence she maintains her innocence and pleads for mercy. Her chastity, loyalty, her whole- hearted commital to her husband’s welfare and to any good deed is the only pure certianty throughout the play, and Desdemona unfortunatly cannot make Othello see this. Emilia fiercy defends Desdemona throughout the play and is certain she would never disobey her husband. Ironically, she admits that she would ‘make her husband a cuckhold’ in order to ‘make him a monarch’, however clings to her husband’s integrity as she testifies to his vileness and Desdemona’s virtue. Purchasing Management at the Far East Organization- myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about thePurchasing Management at the Far East Organization. Answer: This report aims towards the analysis of the effectiveness of three different aspects of the purchasing management in Far East Organization in Singapore. These aspects include; criteria used in supplier selection, management of purchasing costs, and the use of (ICT) Information Communication Technology in the management of purchasing operations in the organization. As the purchasing manager at Far East Organization, it is my responsibility to ensure an efficient and smooth running of all purchasing activities. The Far East Organization is a company that deals with property development. It was founded in 1960 by Ng Teng Fong. It is the largest property developer that is held privately in Singapore. It carries out development activities on properties ranging from commercial, hospitality, retail, residential, healthcare sectors and industrial properties. Far East Organization(FEO) has more than one hundred and eighty investment and development companies some which are publicly held and others that are publicly listed. It also has a sister company called Sino Group located in Hong Kong. Together these two organizations own assets with a net asset value greater than forty US billion dollars (KPMG, 2017). The Far East Organization is a Christian company and aims to ensure the welfare of the city. It carries out activities that reveal its corporate social responsibility. Incidentally, it supports the needy in society as it strives to live up to the Christian value of loving ones neighbor as one loves themselves. They also uphold these values today in a bid to honor the wishes of the founder of the company. The organization also ensures that the real estate properties it provides for its customers are of excellent quality and highly innovative (KPMG, 2017). The Far East Organization has proved to be one of the best providers of real estate in the world by being the only developer worldwide to win the very prestigious FIABCI World Prix dExcellence award. The organization seeks to inspire better lives and carry out operations that far exceed the customers expectations in a bid to earn their trust. This is the guiding principle that has enabled the company to outdo its very impressive competitors. Some of these competitors of the Far East Organization include; DLF, cornerstone real estate advisers, and Falco pacific resource group. The Far East has been able to weather the storms of bear and bull markets in the real estate industry and is expected to continue with these achievements into the future (Ak?n Ate?, van Raaij, Wynstra, 2017). In a bid to achieve its responsibilities, the Far East Organization requires different resources that it needs to purchase. First, it needs to buy land on which the different real estate buildings will be built upon. Next, it requires building materials that are needed in the construction activities. The process of purchasing all these building resources is complicated and can be categorized into five different sections. These are; first, the suppliers are expected to possess the ability to provide the materials over a given period continually. Secondly, the process of sourcing for the materials and suppliers must be efficient. Thirdly, the purchasing strategies must support organizational objectives and goals. Fourth, the goals that are aimed at during the purchasing process must be aligned with the stakeholders interests. Finally, there should be a well-developed supply base management (Yan, Yang, Dooley, 2017). Due to its corporate social responsibility, the company has a responsibility to all its stakeholders, and that is why it has to ensure that the procurement process is well managed. The stakeholders include; customers, shareholders, employees, investors, and the community (Dou, Zhu, Sarkis, 2017). Its my responsibility to ensure that collaborative relationships exist between the organization and its suppliers. This enables the suppliers to see themselves as partners in the organization and therefore act in the interest of the organization. One theory that can be used to explain the relationship that exists between different organizations and their suppliers is the Agency Theory. This theory states that the principal hires an agent to perform a given task (Liang, 2015). In this case, Far East Organization is the principal while the suppliers are the agents. The theory further assumes that both parties act in their self-interest. In situations where the suppliers are motivated by self-interest, there is likely to be conflicts between the two parties. It is therefore very important for Far East Organization to make the suppliers feel like partners in the organization. As such, they will share a common interest which is maximizing the gains for the organization and at the same time, they will be able to maximize their gains. More factors that Far East Organization should consider when sourcing for suppliers include; First, the total ownership cost of materials should be considered. A specific price quoted by the supplier does not necessarily reflect the total cost associated with the product. There are additional costs such as logistics and transportation that should be put into account (Foerstl, Schleper, Henke, 2017). Second, the quality of the products must be high. Therefore, the purchases manager has the job of ensuring that the suppliers who are recruited provide high-quality products. Third, the supplier should have a record of consistency. This is to ensure that they are always time conscious and keep providing quality products (Bals Turkulainen, 2017). Finally, the chosen suppliers should be proper communicators with a partnership approach. This ensures that the suppliers always provide information required by the company and aim to work for the good of the company. Due to its corporate social responsibility foundation, Far East Organization has to work with suppliers who are ethical. They should carry out practices that ensure the environment is sustainable. They should also carry out responsible retailing practices, and build a conducive work environment for their employees (Akhavan Beckmann, 2017). Finally, when purchasing land, there is a need for Far East Organization to purchase land that is strategically positioned to ensure that after construction, the property will be purchased at good prices. This will assist in increasing profit margins as well as reduce costs associated with marketing activities (Rajala Tidstrm, 2017). Far East Organization is a company that has incorporated information and communication technology(ICT) in its operations. Incidentally, Far East Orchard, a subsidiary of Far East Organization owns a range of medical suites in Novena. These medical centers have made use of advanced technology for use by the medical specialists. They also have different modern infrastructure in place to aid in the medical activities (KPMG, 2017). The company has also been making use of data analytics (big data) which aids the company in discovering insights about their customers and competitors. This has helped the company to make more informed decisions that ensure improved profitability and increased efficiency. During the construction process, different technologies are also used to speed up the building process and make it less risky. One technology that should be incorporated in the organization involves the use of artificial intelligence. The subsidiary of the organization in health can use the supercomputer which has proved to be an excellent diagnostic aid for use in the medical sector. It can be used to even train medical students as well as in the treatment of various diseases such as lung cancer. This tool will increase efficiency and enable the organization to help the people better (Pihlajamaa, Kaipia, Sil, Tanskanen, 2017). Another technological innovation that Far East Organization can incorporate is the use of smart building technology. Smart buildings make use of information technology to remain connected to different systems in the building, the people who live there, and the rest of the world. They use processes that are automatic in controlling various functions such as air conditioning, ventilation, security, lighting, and heating among others (Kaufmann Wagner, 2017). Smart buildings also use microchips and sensors to collect data that is then used in the management of various functions in the building. This type of technology is very significant mainly in commercial property to enable the business owners to save energy, minimize environmental effects and improve security. These are just a few of the technologies that can be applied by this organization to reach a wider market and to better serve the needs of its customers (Ak?n Ate? et al., 2017). One theory that can be used to explain the impact of information and communication technology to organizations is the Social Presence Theory. This theory explains the social effects associated with technologies in communication. The theory argues that the impact that a communication medium has depends on the social presence that it enables those using it to have. The theory has an assumption that increased contact improves the impact of the message. The Social Presence Theory also says that the use of texts and emails in interaction, which are less social means, will not influence people as much (Yan et al., 2017). Far East Organization takes note of this theory because it uses different means of advertising that are more social to interact more with its clients to create trust as well as give them first-hand information on different concerns they may have. These platforms include; the use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter as well as having a website where people can air their concerns and commendations. For a business to be profitable, there is a need for profit margins to exist. This requires Far East Organization to factor in the cost of land used for construction, the costs of construction taking account of both fixed and variable costs, as well as the costs associated with marketing activities. For the real estate ventures to be profitable, the buildings need to be of high quality and should be built in accordance with the targeted market (Senz, Knoppen, Tachizawa, 2017). The analysis of purchasing costs can take advantage of some tools. Software that comes in handy in the analysis of purchasing costs is Excel. One such tool is the allocation of gains of purchasing consortia. This is a tool that utilizes various practical methods as well as game theoretical methods to output the purchasing gains. Another tool which is more advanced is the allocation of costs and gains consortia. This tool uses macros. This tool also uses both game theoretical and practical methods to allocate the costs and gains of purchasing consortia. When using both tools, the purchasing price analysis tool is useful in the determination of cost functions (Dogan Aydin, 2011). To analyze quantity discounts, we can still use the purchasing price analysis tool which also uses macros in Excel. It also uses electre two and electre TRI in the process of selecting suppliers during the course of tendering (Chai Liu, 2013). In determining purchasing costs, Far East Organization needs to perform a cost analysis. This is to examine all the costs that the real estate properties have incurred until completion. This ensures that the price paid for the materials is not exorbitant. This analysis involves a calculation of; the costs of construction materials and construction costs, indirect costs, as well as overhead costs (Dogan Aydin, 2011). Additionally, Far East Organization can carry out a supplier analysis and find out which supplier is providing given products in the best quantity and quality at the most optimal price. This may even involve consolidation of vendors to get better prices through higher economies of scale (Hassanzadeh, Ramzi, Zhang Gouiqing, 2011). Indeed, the Far East Organization has been able to achieve its mission continually, and it has also grown to be one of the best real estate investment companies in the world. It has been able to accomplish these goals mainly due to proper management of its purchasing activities. It has been able to work with reliable suppliers who are also ethical. Furthermore, the company has integrated information and communication technologies in its operation which has enabled it to experience exponential growth over the years. Finally, proper management of purchasing costs has allowed the company to enjoy significant profit margins as well as sell properties that are affordable to its wide range of customers. He craving to jump a little-price carrier company and then he makes the good hallucination of the company to lease everyone can hover in realism. Therefore, AirAsia has unceasingly hurled little-cost advertising letters to allow clienteles to like little-cost trips to different chairs. AirAsia’s charges are meaningfully subordinate than other carrier service earners and the websites charges are also inexpensive than the visible-line kiosk fee and gift free stalls raise to give the customers break to like and also for those who cannot give the fee. It is to do the idea everyone can soar in truth. Moreover, he broke the order and cheered employees to tell ready and breakdown the dividers. For example, he sit down in an exposed ground strategy with his employees and also directed his interaction number to his staffs so they can just song, e-mail and text him right and crack it quickly without go through any subdivision. Even the bottommost graded approved can interaction him right through his telephone number, which wealth he gives everyone as like and keen to see their wants. Cheap value creates division, such as tractability and solidity, as well as interior and outside attention, which are most significant in defining organizational achievement. Cultural Food Comparison Research Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Cultural Food Comparison Research Paper - Essay Example Though, even before, the early people could have been obtaining eggs from nests for their consumption. In China and India – by around 7000 BC – people had already started to keep chickens so they could obtain eggs conveniently and did not have to climb up to nests. Since eggs contain a high amount of proteins, they made up excellent sources of nutrition for humans throughout. As humans started farming chickens and other fowl birds, they realized that there were particular seasons when the fowls laid more eggs. This season coincided with spring where the sunlight was sufficient for the foul birds to produce eggs. While many cultures viewed egg as a source of food, many cultures did not view it as so. The Mossi from Africa is one example of people who consider eating eggs as equivalent to stealing. This notion has a rather economic one where eating an egg was just like stealing a chicken that was to be grown out of the egg. Having poultry spread out at large areas in Africa, children are generally discouraged from eating eggs that could, in the future, breed a potential property for the village community (Toussaint-Samat 2009, p. 323). In other parts of the world, such as ancient Rome and China, eggs have been regarded as vital food sources. In ancient Rome, peafowl eggs were eaten and with the invention of pottery and fire, the people also started boiling eggs (Kiple and Ornelas 2000, p. 499). The ancient Romans also consumed boiled eggs. The Chinese, on the other hand, had their own method of consuming and preserving eggs by fermenting them. The Chinese were particularly fond of the pigeon eggs (Kiple and Ornelas 2000, p. 499). This could help the egg to keep from rotting even after weeks. The discovery of egg as a nutritious and healthy food source developed its own innovations throughout time as it started first from being eaten raw to being boiled and then being eaten along with...

Plastic Bag Usage Essay Example for Free

Plastic Bag Usage Essay Plastic bags should be banned because they affect the environment in many ways. There are many reason why they should be banned some of the reasons are because sea animals environment died because of this and it makes are oceans dirty. And I am going to tell you why plastic bags should be banned. Plastic bags disrupt the environment in a serious way. They get into soil and slowly release toxic chemicals. Plastic bags are affecting the environment because animals eat them and often choke and die. Plastic bags end up in landfills or floating around in the environment. It takes hundreds of years for plastic bags to decompose and while they do they release toxins into our soil, lakes, rivers, and oceans. A way to reduce plastic use is to never litter and always dispose of trash properly. Plastic absorb, toxic chemicals, which can be dangerous to fish and other sea life that ingest them. Plastic bags pollute our oceans and kill sea turtles in particular. They are often mistaken for food by dolphins, whales, and sea birds. Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtles and other animal deaths every year nearly 90 % of the debris in our ocean is plastic. We could reduce plastic usage by recycling plastics whenever possible. Plastic debris affects wildlife, human health, and the environment. Petroleum is required to produce plastic bags. Petroleum produce are diminishing and getting more expensive because we have used this non-renewable resource increasingly. Plastic bags are a huge waist and a huge polluter to our oceans. Some cities have taxed plastic bags or even banned them. People want plastic bags to get banned because they are polluting the ocean. People think that banning plastic bags will make oceans cleaner. Plastic bags should be banned because they affect the environment and many ways. They should be banned because sea animals choke on them. They should be banned because animals are going extinct. I think if plastic bags are banned there will be less extinct to sea animals and the oceans will be cleaner.

Social Class in A & P by John Updike :: essays research papers

In the story, â€Å"A&P† by John Updike, the student identifies the differences of social classes between Sammy, a checkout clerk and Queenie, a wealthy girl that visit’s the store. Though not from the same class structure, Sammy is compelled to interact with the girl, however fails in doing so because she is considered privileged. As the student begins his essay, he points out that Sammy is part of the lower class structure. He is an â€Å"eighteen-year-old boy who is working as a checkout clerk in an A&P in a small New England town five miles from the beach† (2191). While working an afternoon shift on Thursday, he notices â€Å"these girls in nothing but bathing suits† (2191) enter the store. It is in this scene that the student begins to identify the differences between the group of girls and Sammy. As the student develops his essay, Sammy begins to compare the girls to other customers in the store. From â€Å"houseslaves in pin curlers† to â€Å"an old party in baggy gray pants† (2192 ), Sammy negatively characterizes customers in contrast to the leader of the girls, Queenie. To Sammy, the girl is someone that is not from their town. She is everything that every girl envies and wants to be. In contrast to Sammy, she will spend her summer vacationing while he spends it working. It is clear to Sammy that their worlds are different, however it is also obvious that he would like to explore hers. The story unfolds when, â€Å"Lengel, the store’s manager† (2191) confronts the girls because they are dressed inappropriately. To Sammy, it is a moment of embarrassment and in defiance he quits his job. The student suggests that in quitting, â€Å"Sammy challenges social inequality and is a person who is trying to

International Product Life Cycle Essay

The international product life cycle (IPLC) theory, developed and verified by economists to explain trade in a context of comparative advantage, describes the diffusion process of an innovation across national boundaries. The life cycle begins when a developed country, having a new product to satisfy consumer needs, wants to exploit its technological breakthrough by selling abroad. Other advanced nations soon start up their own production facilities, and before long LDCs do the same Efficiency/comparative advantage shifts from developed countries to developing nations. Finally, advanced nations, no longer cost-effective, import products from their former customers. The moral of this process could be that an advanced nation becomes a victim of its own creation. IPLC theory has the potential to be a valuable framework for marketing planning on a multinational basis. In this section the IPLC is examined from the marketing perspective, and marketing implications for both innovators and initiators are discussed below. Stages and Characteristics There are five distinct stages (Stage 0 through Stage 4) in the IPLC. Table below shows the major characteristics of the IPLC stages, with the United States as the developer of the innovation in question. Exhibit shows three life-cycle curves for the same innovation: one for the initiating country (i. . , the United States in this instance), one for other advanced nations, and one for LDCs. For each curve, net export results when the curve is above the horizontal line; if under the horizontal line, net import results for that particular country. As the innovation moves through time, directions of all three curves change. Time is relative, because the time needed for a cycle to be completed varies from one kind of product to another.

LACMA Museum Visit Essay

The third floor of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art houses a permanent collection on Ancient Egyptian art. One of the pieces there is a 13†³ high figurine of the goddess Wadjet, sculpted from bronze in during the 26th Dynasty, est. 664-525 BCE. The figurine is in the round, with only the goddess’s feet attached the rectangular base she stands on. The hieroglyphs on the base identify her, as well as the name and parentage of the person who dedicated her figurine. She is shown in the traditional ancient Egyptian pose, with her left foot forward. She is wearing some sort of dress, but her decidedly feminine figure, with a curved abdomen, narrow waist, and protruding breasts, is clearly portrayed through it. Her right arm is held rigidly at her side, again in strict stylistic convention, and her left arm bends only at the elbow to hold whatever less enduring material was placed there. In fact, both of her hands were clearly intended to encircle props, but these have been lost and as such, what they once were can only be inferred from other portrayals of the goddess. She clearly wears necklaces, armbands, and bracelets; this highly detailed work is also present on her lion’s mane, which is shaped similarly to the pharoah’s headdress. She has the head of a lioness, upon which rests the sacred cobra and sun disk, called the uraeus. The goddess Wadjet was emblematic of Lower Egypt- she was often portrayed with her counterpart in Upper Egypt, Nekhbet, handing their joint power to the pharaoh of the time. Other than those human depictions, she was usually shown as a cobra, which allows this piece to be dated- she was only pictured with the lioness head after her mythology was merged with that of Bast, the war goddess of Lower Egypt, in the Late Dynastic period. (source?) As a symbol of Lower Egypt, it can be surmised that she was holding a papyrus  scepter in her left hand, and an ankh in her right. These figurines were commonly bought by wealthy patrons visiting temples. They often had the remains of animals inside them. Put more stuff here. How to Use the Italian Verb Avere

How to Use the Italian Verb Avere Avere: 1 to have (got): Ho molti amici. I have many friends; 2 to have, to own: Ha una villa in campagna. He has a house in the country; 3 to have on, to wear: Maria ha un vestito nuovo. Maria has on a new dress. Like the verb essere (to be), avere is used in myriad grammatical and linguistic situations. Learning the many conjugations and uses of the verb is crucial to the study of the Italian language. Interrogative Verbs To make a verb interrogative (I have - do I have?), add a question mark to the end of the sentence in writing. In speaking, the pitch of the voice rises at the end of the sentence. Avete un buon lavoro. You have a good job. Avete un buon lavoro?Do you have a good job? Is romantic love a code, a script, a narrative or a delusion Essay

Is romantic love a code, a script, a narrative or a delusion - Essay Example The paper "Is romantic love a code, a script, a narrative or a delusion" analyzes is romantic love a code, a script, a narrative or a delusion, or, all of the above. Romantic love can be viewed in different ways, often depending on each individual, his experiences, his status, and his perceptions. Romantic love can therefore be viewed as a code, also a script, a delusion, or all of the above. As a script, love is not original, as it proceeds from others, including books and friends. Love is a amalgamation of amorous declarations, and it mimics images and representations from films, literature, text, poems, biology, and spirituality. As a script, it enacts rituals and conventions. It also arises from books and encounters where the same things are read, heard, and spoken. Love has a settled discourse because it is supported by historical elements, making it an adventure in some ways. Stages relating to love include instantaneous rapture, then a series of encounters. The encounters incl ude various encounters where individuals go on dates, exchange calls and/or letters, and have brief trips. At which point, the ‘lovers’ explore the perfect qualities of the other person. There are sweet qualities at these beginnings of the relationship, and this is the interval period during idyllic moments. These moments take on an identity based on its opposition to the period which follows where there are moments of pain, anxiety, suffering, distress, embarrassment, and deception. At this point, there is a persistent threat. of a possible downfall which may overcome a person. In some ways, love is also a delusion and a madness. Love often takes place with the amorous subject indicating that he is going mad with love, and that he is mad to be in love. He admits that he is insane in his own eyes and is also conscious in his madness. All lovers are mad at some point, delusional too (Barthes, 1984). As such, they are likely to do mad things. There are many incidents in f ilm and in literature illustrating such madness. Romeo and Juliet were mad to reach the point in their life where Juliet agreed to take in a potion to stop her heart and feign death, and Romeo has taken on qualities of madness as he too reaches a point where he commits suicide in the hope of joining Juliet in the afterlife. Delusions are associated with love, especially in terms of the feelings and thoughts which people associate with it (Barthes, 1984). People in love may be deluded enough to think that the other party is also in love with them. As such they are prone to make interpretations of the other person’s actions and words in order to fit their delusion of love (Turkle, 2011). This may be seen in overly eager fans of celebrities which often believe that the words, songs, and actions of their favourite actors or singers are meant for them. John Hinckley, Jr. for example attempted to assassinate Pres. Ronald Reagan in an attempt to impress Jodie Foster (Buss, 2000). He was delusional in the belief that he would be able to prove his love to Foster by assassinating President Reagan. Love is also a catastrophe in the sense that the lover views himself in a trap where he cannot escape, in a trap where he is doomed to destruction. Under these conditions, the lover is likely to be carried away by his emotions, asphyxiated by it, likely to feel

HRM IN BUSINESS CONTEXT Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

HRM IN BUSINESS CONTEXT - Coursework Example Along with this another reason for the slowdown in the market is the inflow of the inferior quality of products into the market for futon which has acquired all the market share of the first time buyers or the students. The Furniture Manufacturer’s association have also appealed to the European Union for the control of such imports from India and the countries of the Far East (Hill and Jones 43-45). The changes in the policies of exports and imports of the government may have an effect on the revenue of the company. This will have an effect on the production level of the company and it would employ less people in the process of production. Thus there is threat of competition from the foreign countries. The company is also influenced by the government grants and in order to set up factory in such areas these grants are essential. Therefore it might be difficult for any other competing firm to open operations in Nottingham at ease (Palmer and Hartley 99-116). The availability of the hardwood and the softwood would have an influence on the costing of the company. Thus the barrier to entry is high for the new entrants. The company needs to have enough labour supply in order to continue with the production process. Since there is unemployment in the area the company can get adequate supply of labour. This means that the bargaining power of the labourers is low. The company is also influenced by the various laws relating to the emissions in the organisation. If the levels of emissions are not maintained the company would have to pay a huge amount of fine to the government. Niche Market for Futons and Sofa-beds The market for sofa beds and futons is a niche market because it is targeted towards those customers who are the students or the first time buyers. This market is an extremely specialised market in the town of Nottingham. The market is of the size of 10.7 billion pounds. The company though produces only a certain line of products, the company appeals to people of all the income groups. This is because the company has product made for the people who have lesser amount to spend as well as for those customers who generally look for the premium priced products. The company also caters to the unique styles and the wacky design segments for the furniture cover. These products are preferred by people with a different kind of taste. The import markets of the UK are mainly driven by China which account for 33% of the market share. The furniture is also imported from the Italian as well as German Markets. STEEPLE Analysis Social The products of the company are purchased by the people from different groups of income. Thus the portfolio of niche products of the company includes something to offer to each of the segments. The company has an opportunity to cater to the other markets. Technological The new methods of technique are used in the production process of the company. The company can use the advanced techniques of incorporating the high efficiency cyclones that would reduce the level of emissions. The incorporation of the new technology would also reduce the requirement of people in the company because the production process would be more automated. This would also be an opportunity for the company if the manufacture the various new technologically advanced products. Economic There are several economic factors that may affect the operations of the company.

Fingerprinting Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Fingerprinting Paper - Essay Example terized, the most useful identification systems must not necessarily be biological or biogenic but could also entail systematic tied identities affiliated to ones banking activities, international travel and international communication. These facets have a higher pedigree for our civilization (Jain et al., 1997). In this regard, the most fronted identifications entail vehicle logbooks, residence permits, passport numbers, visas, driving licenses and personal international numbers (PINs). In future, the need to have tied fingerprinting with other more advanced computerized identification credentials will be more meaningful (Lewis, 2001; Hong & Jain, 1998). For instance, the PRADO project launched by the Council of the European Union to register all travel and identity credentials within the region is just an example of databases could aid in better and more meaningful identification and recording on personal activity (Jain, Bolle & Pankanti, 1999). In conclusion, codes like national access codes, personal identification numbers and other secretly encrypted coding systems might be more useful than merely having fingerprint data. Biogenic data that encompass a number of biological descriptions including eye characteristics, blood groups and other hormonal mechanisms will be better options to replace the traditional fingerprinting technologies that might become obsolete with increasing global technological

Oppurtunities for Waste Minimization and Their Implementation Essay

Oppurtunities for Waste Minimization and Their Implementation - Essay Example Therefore, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has instituted its hierarchy of waste minimization ways, which include reduction, recycling, and treatment. Most organizations such as hospitals and schools aim at preserving the balance between the environment, and protecting people’s health. Also, in most organizations people must comply with environmental, safety, and health laws and regulations issued by the local, state and federal agencies. Thus, this paper will identify opportunities for waste minimization and implementation within an organization. This will include explanation and application of waste minimization methods in the National Fuel Gas Company, and structure and reasoning of the case for and against the implementation. National Fuel Gas Company is a holding company that was incorporated in 1902. It operates in four segments of business, which include utility segment, pipeline and storage, exploration and production, and energy marketing segme nt. The company operates its own natural gas treating and processing, as well as gathering pipeline facilities. Each of the four segments has its own function under different management. The utility segment operations are conducted by the national fuel gas distribution corporation, which sells and provides transportation of natural gas services. The pipeline and storage segment operations are done by the national fuel gas supply corporation, which provides transportation and storage natural gas. Moreover, the exploration and production segment is conducted by Seneca Resources Corporation, which focuses on the development of purchase of natural gas and oil reserves, while the energy marketing segment operations are done by the national fuel resources that markets natural gas. Waste minimization methods Waste minimization is considered the most effective and beneficial operating procedure. For instance, in a natural gas treating and processing plant, there are many economical and tech nical, waste minimization methods that can be used. For this reason, many oil and gas operators have discovered several waste minimization opportunities and implemented them. Thus, they are enjoying the benefits such as increased revenue, reduced operating and waste management costs, reduced regulatory compliance concerns, improved company image and public relations and reduced potential liability concerns. According to Cheremisinoff (1995), there are three key methods of waste minimization, which include source reduction also known as pollution prevention, recycling, and treatment. Source reduction is the most sought-after method of waste minimization, which reduces or eliminates the generation contaminants at the source, or release of chemical waste from the source. It involves the reduction of the impact of chemical wastes on the environment to the greatest extent. The recycling method is also a desirable approach in waste minimization in which the waste material that is used for a certain purpose is treated and reused in the same or another process. Source reduction and recycling, form the waste minimization. Treatment is the last waste minimization method. It can be conducted in laboratories through elementary neutralization, or through other processes such as chemical,

Stress: Impact on Health of Hong Kong People

Stress: Impact on Health of Hong Kong People Stress – Main Reason for Decline in Health of Hong Kong People Introduction In the crowded and competitive city, Hong Kong, pressure which appears in all age groups damages health of residents. According to the Department of Health (Public Health Information System, 2015), the main external death cause of Hongkongers were intentional self-harm. The World Health Organization (WHO) identified depressive illness is projected to be the second leading cause of disability worldwide in 2020. The main reason for the decline in health of Hongkongers are stress caused by the onerous educational system, taxing working environment and strict social conformity, but they can be resolved by reforming the educational system, modifying the work policies and implementing public stress management program to improve the health of Hongkonger. The purpose of this report is to present recommendations of stress relief. Analysis To begin with, strain is caused from Hong Kong rigorous educational system which sorts students into institutions ranked hierarchically[A1]. This system compels schools to focus on the academic results and vie against one another in fierce competition (Ho, 2008). There are exorbitant expectation, excessive homework and frequent tests for students. A study found that the first-year tertiary education students in Hong Kong are prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress. The high rates of morbidity and high prevalence of symptoms were alarming (Wong, et al., 2006). In fact, the academic problems, such as disaffection, disruption and underachievement were stressors for not only the students, but also their family members (Service Network on Ethnic Minorities, 2010). In Hong Kong, parents arrange pre-school educations and extracurricular activities insanely for their children as they are extremely anxious about their development. The students with overestimated ability will doubt about their performance in getting others acceptance and agreement. Besides, extreme pressure from this onerous educational system may trigger mental disorder, social withdrawal and even self-destructive behaviors. Education Bureau (EDB) can modify the educational system to relieve the school related stress by promoting well-rounded development and self-regulated learning. The comprehensive educational infrastructure in the United State (US) is established in a stress-free environment (University of Michigan, 2015). EDB can reform the system by referring to the well-rounded teaching method in US which is innovative, for instance, role playing, use of computer games, simulation, experience method and application method (Vallance, et al., 2014). As well as changing the teaching method in school, EDB should modify the education orientation. EDB should fund a wide selection of curricula opportunities while the education should be more value oriented than career or money oriented. Teachers should focus on the imagination and creative ability of students. The main point is reforming the entrance examination of schools. This modification of educational system can discover creative personnel and deceas e the burden on students. It makes the teaching more enjoyable (Patankar Jadhav, 2012). It motivates and stimulates students to develop happy normal lives as they can have their own goal. Thus, the school related stress, can be relieved. However, it takes time to change the operating mode of schools. EDB needs to collaborate with schools and provide a definite instruction so as to change the teaching method and selection system progressively. Another argument is that the decline in health of Hongkongers arise when there is pressure from placing a strain in workplace. Work related pressure occurs where workers perceive they cannot subject or cope with the demands within the workplace. Overloaded work, long working time and nebulous career prospect inducing excessive or uncontrolled pressure disquiets Hongkongers. The Hong Kong worker stress level was at 55%. The value was ranked third in the world and higher than the global average (Sarti, 2012). Work strains go home with the worker while home strains come to work with the worker (Perth College, 2014). As the ability of workers were overestimated in tight workplace, which brings terrible consequence such as fatigue, muscle wastage, adult-onset diabetes and adverse lifestyle, it would disturb their ability to perform to expectation (OvercomeBullying.org, 2015). It is time for the Legislative Council to formulate a work policies and legislation modification by referring to the cross-college Stress Management Policy and legislation in United Kingdom (UK) as a response to the decline in health of Hongkongers. The value of stress level of workers in UK was lower than the global average. Legislative Council can formulate this policy in Hong Kong in order to mitigate the occurrence of related potential harm from work. Under this policy, manager, supervisor and staff will be assigned responsibilities. The basic responsibility for managers are ensuring staffs are fully trained to discharge their duties. They should not only provide equivalent developmental opportunities for each staff, but also monitor workloads, working hours and overtime so as to ensure staffs are not overloaded or overworking. Supervisors are accountable for conduct Wellbeing and Staff Surveys to identify stressors in the workplace and ensure managers take appropriate actions to address the issues. Additionally, human resources staffs are in charge of conducting and implementing recommendations of risks assessments within their area of responsibility (Perth College, 2014). Along with acknowledging the responsibilities and ways to protect the mental wellbeing of themselves or their subordinate, work related pressure can be identified and managed by managers. Employee can seek assistance and support from their representative as early as possible as the policy requirement too. Therefore, the strain in workplace can be eliminated by protecting the autonomy and remuneration of all employees. On the other hand, as this legislation is related to settled responsibility of different stakeholders, it may cause dissension between each other easily. So, Legislative Council must hold a public advisory with promotion before the formulation. From a social point of view, Hongkongers are accustomed to blind conformity which brings an exhausting lifestyle. It is well-known that Hong Kong is a fast paced city where workers all have busy work, school, social life and other commitments. They pursue to be efficient in any time. However, this conformity damages health progressively. For example, overeating fast food causes obesity, overusing internet brings visual impairment and staying up late with harm to mental well-being. Some residents claimed that the main reason for the decline in health of Hongkongers are the insalubrious lifestyle, smoking. It is because cigarette smoking is the major cause of lung cancer (Public Health Information System, 2015). Although smoking is a lifestyle, it is a herd behavior. Hongkongers tend to follow the actions or beliefs of others. Under the social pressure, anyone who pursue to achieve social goals and have an intangible competition damage their health eventually. Hospital Authority (HA) should focus on seeking collaboration with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in order to relieve pressure of Hongkongers by implementing public stress management program. Government health sector plays a leading role. HA is already leveraged on available capacity and capability in the private sector through public private partnership (PPP) for managing demands (Cheung, 2015). If HA focuses on community-based activities and prevention concurrently, it will arguably better place to approach and win the trust of local communities. Moreover, NGOs can make a close affinity with community by collaborating with other advocacy groups (Thara Patel, 2010). Afterward, the seriousness of stress can spread widely by promotion and education which increase the awareness of the early signs of this treatable depressive disorder. Through the combined efforts from both the public and private sectors, this collaboration leads to an overall improvement in healthcare service qu ality. It alerts residents to have self-management of stress while early diagnosis and prevention benefit in further control of the health status. Nevertheless, a key problem in NGOs is the source of their funding which rise required to augment resources. To tackle this problem, Labour and Welfare Bureau can establish a fund for providing assistance to organization. It encourages the organization to strengthen the related activities by solving their economic burden. Conclusion This report describes stress is the main causes of the decline in health of Hongkongers. It reminds people about the fact that an anxious status is in hazard. A process of collaboration and communication across public and private domains that focuses on common goals can relieve stress of Hongkongers comprehensively. Education Bureau, Legislative Council and Hospital Authority should be the leaders in creating a new stress-free educational system, working condition and social ethos. Take it as a mutual responsibility to further partnership activities and monitor impact on the health of the public.

Philippine ethnic architecture :: essays research papers

Philippine Ethnic Architecture - Ethnic culture lies on Phil. Architecture, an amalgam on Anglo-Saxon, Latin, Indian, Chinese, Japanese & other foreign influences with sensibility of Pre-Hispanic, Pre-Western & Southeast Asian. Its Ethos’s is linked with elements and creatures. It draws inspiration from environment. It also responds to man’s communal and social needs. General Characteristics - Ethnic Structures are made of natural materials such as wood, vegetations & sometimes molds. The favorite material is bamboo, which is used for doors, flooring siding, roofing & many others. It is informal and usually designed by the owner itself and executed with manpower provided by his family and the community. Often influenced first by tradition, second by chance. Most ethnic houses conform to a general pattern: have steep thatched roofs to facilitate drainage; elevated on posts or stilts and have slanted flooring. The result is generally a comfortable and functional, yet durable and structurally stable. Decorations are aesthetics and socio-politico-religious factors. According to cultural groups or people Types of Structures in History - Ethnic architecture has evolved in response to changes in time and history. Cave dwellings were perhaps the earliest shelters in the Philippines. The next stage of evolution of ethnic architecture was marked by the appearance of the â€Å"lean-to†, the first attempt at building. The practice of kaingin gave rise to a more settled life in a real house. But durability was not a major concern. The introduction of wet rice agriculture brought about a truly settled life and a need for a more permanent dwelling. The bahay kubo, the dwelling of the lowland, christianized populace had already been established even before the Spaniards came. Because of different environments, upland and lowland houses developed interesting contrasts. Lowland houses have more open, airy interiors, while upland ones are more tightly enclosed. Special types of houses developed in various parts of the Philippines. In Sulu archipelago, houses were built over water.

Genetically Modified foods Persuasion Essay Essay

Many are not aware of the ongoing debate of whether or not products in grocery stores across the country should label their products in a way to provide consumer awareness regarding foods containing genetically modified ingredients. One statistic states, â€Å"an estimated sixty to seventy percent of processed foods in grocery stores contain at least one genetically engineered ingredient† (Byrne). This statistic reveals the prevalence of these ingredients found in grocery stores, yet the effects they have on the products Americans consume can be proven very minor. Throughout various studies and research there are countless reasons why labelling these foods can be viewed as unnecessary. Genetically-modified foods should not have to be labeled because of the complex unresolved issues regarding which foods should be labelled, the expensive costs for the resources and technology required of labeling, and the fact that there are no significant differences between genetically modified food and non-genetically modified food. While labelling might seem like a simple process, it has many complex issues that need to be resolved in order to create the necessary standards required to create a beneficial labelling system. What many do not realize is that in order to label these products effectively, we must develop standards that allow the labels to be equally and accurately distributed amongst all genetically modified foods. Certain questions must be answered, such as determining what percentage of genetically modified ingredients there are in a certain product in order for it to be considered for a label. Debates over whether the percentage standards should be . 01% or 1% have been discussed, while other countries such as Japan have a minimum percentage rate of 5% (Byrne). In addition, the decision of labelling products produced from livestock that are fed genetically modified crops remains unanswered. This issue can be found irrelevant due to the fact that there is no difference found in meat, egg, or dairy products derived from GM fed livestock and non-GM fed livestock. Overall, one can see that the idea of labeling genetically modified products is not only difficult, but an extremely controversial and undefined process. Outside of the cost of paper and ink for labelling, the technology required for the labelling of every GM food on the market would result in a significant price increase imposed on both the producer and consumer. An increased cost on food is an unnecessary expenditure that can easily be avoided if there simply was not a labeling policy that required producers to label genetically modified foods. These high costs result from the extensive process of labelling that would begin with the farmer and end with the retailer. This process would need to include very detailed record-keeping and tests that would be required alongside producing the genetically modified foods. Other problems regarding the cost of these labels include the willingness of consumers to buy products containing these ingredients and the increase of costs on these products from the new labelling. Both of these dilemmas result in a negative effect on the manufacturer’s business and their respective products (Carter). All in all, the price increases and substantial costs of creating these special labels would create a negative economic impact on both the buyer and seller. In addition to the unreasonable costs and logistical difficulties posed, the differences between the nutritional content of genetically modified food and the nutritional content of conventionally derived foods are found to be minuscule. Conventional foods can be defined as the crops grown on farms such as corn or sugar using herbicides or pesticides. Throughout various tests on GM foods versus conventional foods, it has been proven that GM foods have no nutritional difference from conventional foods and do not place any greater effect on human health (Lawrence). Furthermore, the FDA already requires foods that do possess a significantly different nutritional value due to modifications must provide labelling that exposes the nutritional changes. Examples of circumstances where these labels would be mandatory are when they contain certain allergens that consumers would not expect or a toxin that could be harmful when excessively consumed is present (Byrne). Labels on foods are used to notify consumers of when they are purchasing foods that are harmful to their health and genetically modified foods do not fall into that category. In short, placing these labels on all genetically modified foods is excessive due to the small differences they carry regarding their nutritional value and content. In conclusion, genetically modified foods should not have to be labeled to a certain degree because of the complex unresolved issues, the expensive costs for the resources and technology required for labeling, and the fact that there are no significant differences between genetically modified foods and conventional foods. These three key points argue that labelling these modified foods would result in undesirable effects on our economy beginning with the producers and ending with the people consuming these foods. Allowing the public to be conscious of when they are consuming these particular products might seem like a reasonable proposition, but the negative outcomes tremendously outweigh the benefits. Is Global Warming Happening Or Not Happening Environmental Sciences Essay

What is planetary warming? Global heating can be defined as the increasing in temperature of Earth atmosphere and oceans. The increasing of temperature may be little yet important. Global heating is besides the enhanced of nursery consequence. Greenhouse consequence occurs due to the being of nursery gases. Greenhouse gases such as C dioxide, methane, etc absorb infrared radiation. Sunlight radiation passes through the Earth ‘s ambiance, arrives Earth ‘s surface. A part of it is absorbed by the Earth ‘s surface while the other will be re-radiated back to infinite in signifier of infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases like C dioxide, methane, etc trap this infrared radiation and reflect it back to Earth ‘s surface and cause warming consequence. Without those nursery gases, H2O will stop dead and there will be no life on Earth as the Earth ‘s temperature drops dramatically. With excessively much of it, planetary heating occurs. I believe there is happening of planetary heating. Even though there are some statements against planetary heating, For case, some of the people argued that the scientific discipline of planetary heating is non proved. Besides, they argued that scientists may overstate the consequence of planetary heating as they wish to have financess from environmental organisations. Furthermore, some people thought that scientist non ever right, they may do mistakes in computation and giving wrong anticipations. Besides, scientists believe that the Sun end product has greatly changed since 1970, so there is non-occurrence of planetary heating. And, some people said that the Troposphere information does n't demo the same grade of warming as expected. Meanwhile, some scientists believe that natural emanation of green house gases is greater than unreal emanation ( Human Activities ) . However, those statements are non-sense. As there are tonss of groundss prove that there is happening of planetary he ating. First, the concentration of nursery gases such as C dioxide is increasing at an speed uping rate. C dioxide graph.gif The graph above ( cited from hypertext transfer protocol: //co2now.org/ ) shows the concentration of C dioxide from the twelvemonth of 1955 boulder clay 2010. Concentration of C dioxide increases decennary by decennary. The increasing of concentration of C dioxide rises the temperature of Earth as it traps the infrared radiation that re-radiated by Earth. Hence, planetary heating occurs. Besides, concentration of methane is increasing dramatically since industrial revolution. The graph below shows that the methane concentration in ambiance from Methane concentration.gif twelvemonth of 1984 till twelvemonth of 2005. Methane is one of the nursery gases that able to pin down more infrared radiation if compared to carbon dioxide. High concentration of methane further increases the consequence of planetary heating. Second, sea degree rises. There are 2 factors that cause sea rise, one of the factors is the Increasing in planetary temperature melts the universe ‘s glaciers that will let go of H2O to raise the sea degree. For case, ice cap on Mountain Kilimanjoro ( a mountain that is located in north- eastern Tanzania and the highest mountain in Africa. ) will be disappeared in 20 old ages. About 82 % of the ice cap has disappeared since it was foremost mapped in 1912. Besides, great sum ( around 87 % ) of Antarctic ice sheets have melted and collapsed into the sea. The 2nd factor is thermic enlargement of sea H2O. As planetary temperature is increasing at an speed uping rate, the temperature of the H2O of the sea additions, sea becomes less dense. This phenomenon will do the sea H2O to distribute. Once spreading occurs, sea H2O degree rises. ( Jeffrey Chanton, 2002 ) This information has proven that sea degree rises twelvemonth by twelvemonth, decennary by decennary. Recent_Sea_Level_Rise. png This is the graph that shows the recent sea degree rise. It is increasing decennary by decennary at an dismaying rate. With merely one sea degree rises, islands such as Maldives would disappear shortly in the hereafter. If this phenomenon continues, shortly, metropoliss like London, Bangkok and New York will below the sea degree. These are the groundss of planetary heating. They are so important. Third, ocean becomes acidic. Concentration of C dioxide is increasing at an speed uping rate. Carbon dioxide will fade out in ocean H2O, increases the concentration of H ions ( H+ ions ) as C dioxide will go carbonaceous acid, carbonaceous acid will further hydrolyse to hydrogen ions. Here is the equation of it. CO2A + H2O & lt ; = & gt ; H2CO3A & lt ; = & gt ; H+A + HCO3-ATherefore ocean H2O becomes acidic. Since 18th century, pH of sea H2O beads by somewhat more than 0.1 units. In the hereafter, the pH value will drop further. The effects are important, H2O that is acidic able to fade out the shells of aquatic beings. Aquatic beings like salmon, oysters and clinchs are sensitive to acidified H2O. Harmonizing to the article of acidified ocean H2O endanger marine life from Mexico to Vancouver Island, scientist, Lanson and her co-workers did some research on sea H2O of Queen Charlotte Sound, North of Vancouver Island, to northern Mexico. They found out that the sea H2O is caustic. As she mentioned that, the acidified sea H2O brings great impact on shell aquatic beings as the corrosiveness of the sea H2O dissolve their shell. Soon in the hereafter, the ecosystem of ocean will be affected. Fourthly, O depletion zones across universe ‘s ocean. Dead and low life zones are spread outing in universe ‘s oceans presents. Fig. 2. The graph above shows the correlativity between the concentration of O and C dioxide in hatches and staircases. The concentration of C dioxide is reciprocally relative to concentration of O. This graph has proven that the increasing of concentration of C dioxide that cause planetary heating will do O depletion in universe ‘s ocean every bit good. Harmonizing to a scientific discipline study that published by the research workers of University of Kiel, Germany, states that O content is diminishing in cardinal and eastern equatorial Africa and in the equatorial of Pacific. Besides, zones off the seashore of California and in the Gulf of Mexico are confronting diminishing in O content. While, subarctic Pacific is the top of it. Oxygen depletion causes extinction of aquatic beings. This will greatly impact human shortly in the hereafter, as human loss their beginning of nutrient. In the hereafter, dead fishes and other aquatic animals will drift on sea surface. More and more oceans will turn into dead sea because of planetary heating. The image below shows that the dead fishes that float on sea surface due to oxygen depletion that occurs in their home ground. O depletion.jpg The 5th grounds is climate alteration. Climate alteration is the changing of clime over a period of clip. Climate alteration may be limited to specific parts or occurs globally. Nowadays, the conditions is acquiring warmer and heater. Heat is constructing up on Earth ‘s surface. Drought occurs often in the past 30 old ages due to planetary heating. As an illustration, monolithic California fires. Besides that, planetary warming leads to other utmost conditions forms such as more hurricanes. For case, in August/September 2004, a moving ridge of hurricanes devastates Caribbean islands and parts of south eastern United States. Increasing of temperature of ocean H2O increases the opportunities of hurricanes as the H2O evaporates, it will organize hurricane while warm H2O will assist to keep strength and strength of hurricane. Besides, heavy rainfall and intense rain occur often presents due to planetary heating. Warmer temperature causes H2O evaporates more and big sum of wet in th e ambiance. hypertext transfer protocol: //www.preventionweb.net/english/includes/gpgraph/bars_occurence_hazard_hubpage.php? hazard=flood The graph above shows that the figure of inundation occurred ( reported ) around the universe. ( Source of informations: OFDA/CRED International Disaster Database ) . Number of inundation is increasing twelvemonth by twelvemonth, because of planetary heating. The 6th grounds is the alterations in agricultural field. As planetary heating changes the planetary temperature, utmost conditionss occur ; modified weed, plague and pathogen exist. Crop output decreases at low-latitude country ( Schneider et al, 2007 ) . Increasing temperature causes A The past few old ages have seen the Northern Hemisphere and other topographic points around the Earth experience higher temperatures that caused by planetary heating, which could ease growing features for certain plagues. For case, British Columbia, Canada has had a pine beetle infestation that threatens to destruct between 70-80 % of their woods by 2013.A Besides, planetary warming nowadayss new challenges for corn plague direction, as high temperature improves prevalence of insect plagues, increases winter-survival. Plagues that onslaught corn that is winter-intolerance, due to increasing in planetary temperature, they survive during winter season and they attack corn and causes dropping of harvest output and besides alterations in harvest output variableness. This is proven by scientists, Noah SA Diffenbaugh, Christian HA Krupke, Michael AA WhiteA andA Corinne EA Alexander. Furthermore, harmonizing to on-line journal Environmental Research Letters proves that increasing in planetary temperature reduced production of maizes, wheat and barley by 40 million metric dozenss per twelvemonth between 1981 and 2002. Compared to the information from Food and Agriculture Organization, outputs of wheat, rice, maize, soya beans, barley and sorghum, fell by 3-5 % for every 1 grade F rise. Furthermore, harmonizing to MAHA Malaysia, maple sirup production in America is diminishing approximately 10 % due to warmer and shorter winter. While drouth that occurs because of planetary heating causes H2O deficit, serious thesis greatly affects agribusiness. A scientific study from Colorado State University besides shows that increasing in planetary temperature causes croping lands to be less produc tive. hypertext transfer protocol: //fishsnorkel.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/crop-yields-jpeg.jpg? w=460 & A ; h=314 The graph above shows the decrease of the 10 twelvemonth turn overing growing rate in universe entire harvest yield/hectare since the agricultural revolution ( Data beginning, FAO ) . Besides, human wellness is greatly affected by planetary heating and clime alterations. This can be strong grounds that prove the happening of planetary heating. Extreme conditions events greatly affected human wellness. For case, utmost conditions that causes flood causes human decease and besides water-borne diseases spread in an accelerating rate. While heat moving ridges in Europe in August, 2003 resulted in extra mortality in the scope of 35,000 entire deceases. And drought brought infective diseases such as meningitis that greatly infected occupants in semi- and sub-Saharan Africa. Climate alteration besides alters the distribution of infective diseases vectors, as hurricanes and rains provide engendering beds for the vectors. Those infective diseases vectors attack human being. Hence, human mortality rate additions. Some scientific surveies have found out that higher temperature increased episodes of diarrhoeal disease in grownups and kids in Peru. Increasing in planetary temp erature non merely affects harvest output, animate beings yet human being. Water crisis is really familiar in this modern epoch. As planetary heating, clime alteration affects H2O resources. In the West, there is a turning Water exigency in Southern British Columbia, as the reservoirs are now merely at 30 per cent. In China, drought brings H2O crisis, thaw of the glaciers of Qinghai-Tibet tableland in Western China due to planetary heating reduces their potable H2O resources. The other strong grounds that prove there is happening of planetary heating is the migration of works and aquatic beings in the ocean. For case, many species of plankton are traveling north to get away the warming H2O on the sea surface off Greenland and Alaska. Besides, Eider ducks that live on St. Lawrence migrate 100 stat mis north to a part with colder clime. This strongly implicates that the heating of H2O off the island. Furthermore, harmonizing to the on-line diary, Global Warming Effects seen in animate being and works universes, 99 species in North America and Europe showed that wildlife such as birds, butterflies and alpine herbs shifted northerly an mean 6.1km per decennary. Global warming causes temperature-sensitive wildlife to seek for ice chest locations that are farther North. Besides, 172 species of migratory birds, amphibious vehicles were engendering earlier in spring, workss and vegetations blossoming earlier. Those groundss support the happening of planetary heating.

”The Piece of String” by Guy de Maupassant Essay Essays

†The Piece of String† by Guy de Maupassant Essay Essays †The Piece of String† by Guy de Maupassant Essay Paper †The Piece of String† by Guy de Maupassant Essay Paper I. Analysis of ElementssA. Fictional charactersThe story’s two major characters are both considered as a stereotype character. Their functions were easy known as the writer clearly discussed their parts and countenances in the narrative. The story’s supporter is Maitre Hauchecome. He was wrongly accused for stealing a pocketbook with five 100 francs and some concern documents. Every clip people saw him. they harassed him. He can besides be a dynamic character. From being a simple and guiltless adult male. he was all of a sudden ruined by unfairness. Another character is Maitre Malandain. He was surely identified as the adversary of the narrative when the writer stated that he was the enemy of Maitre Hauchecome and when he even said the city manager that Maitre Hauchecome was the 1 who stole the pocketbook. Last. he was the ground for the destroyed life of Maitre Hauchecome. Minor Fictional characters were besides seen in the narrative. They are the city manager. Maitre Authirne. tavern keeper and a Equus caballus trader. Maitre Fortune. proprietor of the pocketbook. and Marius Paumelle. the 1 who found the leather pocketbook. These characters are all considered a level character for they did non alter all over the narrative. B. ConflictThe struggles used by the writer in the narrative were adult male vs. adult male and adult male vs. society. Man vs. adult male occurred when Maitre Hauchecome was accused for acquiring the black leather pocketbook incorporating five 100 francs and some concern documents by his enemy – Maitre Malandain. Another struggle shown was adult male vs. society. Being incognizant. people around him still alleged him even though the farmer at Ymanville already returned the pocketbook. C. Point of ViewThe narrative is uttered in Third Person Point of View since the storyteller of the narrative is non a character in the narrative. Furthermore. the storyteller is an foreigner who sees the head of the characters. He inquired: â€Å"Is Maitre Hauchecome of Breaute here? †Maitre Hauchecome. seated at the other terminal of the tabular array. replied: â€Å"Here I am. †And the officer resumed:â€Å"Maitre Hauchecome. will you hold the goodness to attach to me to the mayor’s office? The city manager would wish to speak to you. † II. Discussion of the Subject1. You can neer be guiltless one time you’re accusedAs rumours are easy dispersed presents. people will merely judge the manner they think about you without cognizing the truth. No affair how you deeply explicate. you will ever be thought of as guilty. And whether you are already free from the indictment. it is impossible that people will quickly bury what you had undergone. By the clip Maitre Hauchecome was mistakenly accused of stealing merely because of picking up the twine. everyone thought that he was a rascal. After the accusal. people overlooked him. and even when the pocketbook was already returned. 2. How society can be barbarous In life. one time you’re suspected. people around you will ever pull off to hold bad ideas about you. They easy believe in what others say and they will non care about how you will experience. In the instance of Maitre Hauchecome. he was wrongly alleged by his enemy of acquiring the pocketbook. Peoples disbelieved him as he said that he was non the stealer. And when the pocketbook was returned by a adult male. the society still thought that he had an confederate who returned it. III. Vocabularyburgh- a borough or chartered townswerved- diverged ; veeredthrong- a big. dumbly packed crowd of people or animate beingssavage- fierce. violent. and uncontrolledrheumatism- any disease marked by redness and hurting in the articulations.musculuss. or hempen tissue exasperated- infuriated ; maddenedprotruded- jutted ; projectedjovialness- endowed with or characterized by a hearty. joyous wit or a spirit of good-fellowship threshold- a strip of wood. metal. or rock organizing the underside of a room access and crossed in come ining a house or room. perplexed- confused ; puzzled IV. Figures of Address1. Personificationâ€Å"Their blouses. blue. â€Å"stiff-starched. † polishing as if varnished. ornamented with a small design in white at the cervix and carpuss. whiff about their bony organic structures. seemed like balloons ready to transport them off. † 2. Consonance â€Å"Maitre Hauchecome was seized with a kind of shame to be seen therefore by his enemy. picking a spot of threading out of the soil. † 3. Litotessâ€Å"What grieved me so much was non the thing itself as the prevarication. There is nil so black as to be placed under a cloud on history of a prevarication. † 4. Hyperboleâ€Å"He went place ashamed and indignant. choking with choler and confusion. the more dejected that he was capable. with his Norman craft. of making what they had accused him of and of all time self-praise of it as of a good bend. † 5. Appositional â€Å"The following twenty-four hours about one o’clock in the afternoon Marius Paumelle. a hired adult male in the employ of Maitre Breton. farmer at Ymanville. returned the pocketbook and its contents to Maitre Houlbreque of Manneville. † V. Analysis of Literary Devicess1. Flashbackâ€Å"I was seen. me? Who says he saw me? †Ã¢â‚¬Å"Monsieur Malandain. the harness shaper. †The old adult male remembered. understood and flushed with choler.Flashback was presented when Maitre Hauchecome tried to remember the clip when Monsieur Malandain was looking at him while he was picking up the piece of twine. 2. Imaginationâ€Å"In the public square of Goderville there was a crowd. a multitude of human existences and animate beings assorted together. The horns of the cowss. the tall chapeaus. with long sleep. of the rich provincial and the headdress of the peasant adult females rose above the surface of the assembly. And the blatant. shrill. shouting voices made a uninterrupted and barbarian blare which sometimes was dominated by the robust lungs of some countryman’s laugh or the long lowing of a cow tied to the wall of a house. † Imagery was shown since the writer was able to allow the readers imagine the existent topographic point of Goderville by allowing them have the ocular image of it. The lines made the readers feel as if they were present in the really minute. right between the lines. 3. Suspense He inquired:â€Å"Is Maitre Hauchecome of Breaute here? †Maitre Hauchecome. seated at the other terminal of the tabular array. replied: â€Å"Here I am. †And the officer resumed:â€Å"Maitre Hauchecome. will you hold the goodness to attach to me to the mayor’s office? The city manager would wish to speak to you. †Suspense was seen since the writer successfully allow the reader inquiry about the things will go on next. Intense feeling was besides present to the readers as they wait for what will go on to Hauchecome. and as they ask why he was called by the city manager. 4. Chekhov’s Gun â€Å"Maitre Hauchecome of Breaute had merely arrived at Goderville. and he was directing his stairss toward the public square when he perceived upon the land a small piece of twine. Maitre Hauchecome. economical like a true Norman. thought that everything utile ought to be picked up. and he bent distressingly. for he suffered from rheumatism. He took the spot of thin cord from the land and began to turn over it carefully† By the clip Hauchecome picked up the twine. it seems like it has nil to make with the narrative. But it became notable towards the center of the narrative because it was the ground why he was blamed for stealing every bit Malandain told the city manager a different narrative sing the thing Hauchecome picked up. 5. Asyndeton â€Å"The adult females. holding placed their great baskets at their pess. had taken out the domestic fowl which lay upon the land. tied together by the pess. with panicky eyes and vermilion crests. †The line shows Asyndeton as the writer merely used comma to hold uninterrupted flow of ideas which speeds up the beat of the transition. and to hold more memorable thoughts. VI. Valuing1. EagernessThroughout the narrative. avidity was obviously seen in the character of Hauchecome. By the clip he was accused because of the incorrect statement said by Malandain. people around him beleaguered and disbelieved him. He was really eager to turn out to the people that he was guiltless. And when he knew about the returned pocketbook. he even spread it to some aliens merely to verify his artlessness. 2. Cynicism This value was decidedly exposed when Hauchecome. blamed for stealing the pocketbook. was suspected by the society even though they did non cognize the truth. Intuition was shown by the people around him. They didn’t give Hauchecome a opportunity to support his artlessness. alternatively they criticized him. He besides experienced racism as the people say bad remarks to him. VII. Social Relevanceâ€Å"You shall non travel around as a defamer among your people. and you shall non stand up against the life of your neighbour: I am the Lord. † -Leviticus 19:16Connecting to the poetry. we should cognize how to love others. as we are called boies of God. We shouldn’t accuse others for the wickednesss they have committed because we do non cognize what their grounds truly are. Overpowering to people can already do us to perpetrate wickedness. In our society. we invariably hear people around us speaking about another individual. Judging them instantly the manner they act. Particularly to adolescents. they criticize individuals they do non like. They do non cognize that what they are making is already considered as an wickedness. Furthermore. we can detect that unfairness is frequently go oning in our state. Some delinquents are non being punished by the jurisprudence merely because they have the authorization and decidedly. the money. In drumhead. we should larn to accept the failing of others and we must non take advantage of it. Finally. we should non be the ground for the ruin of others. VIII. Comprehension Response1. Is Hauchecome more of an ignorant or an guiltless adult male? Why?In my sentiment. Hauchecome is more of an nescient adult male. He merely went to Goderville without cognizing that he will be able to run into his bad luck at that place. He was besides nescient in the instance he was suspected even though he was non the 1 who stole the pocketbook. He was incognizant that his enemy already disgraced him. And by the clip the pocketbook was returned. people in his milieus still talked behind his dorsum negatively. 2. Who do you believe should be blamed for the decease of Hauchecome? He. himself or the society? Why? For me. both he and the society should be blamed for his decease. He. himself should be blamed since he allow the people around him affect him. He should hold ignored them for he knew to himself that he was guiltless. He wasn’t able to stay strong when people tried to impeach him. Furthermore. society should besides be responsible for his decease as they were the ground for the failing of Hauchecome. They kept on stating bad thoughts to him which made him feebler and made him experience non to contend any longer. 3. How does the narrative mirror the job of societal injustice-its victim and its proliferators? Appertaining to the narrative. Hauchecome was blamed for the offense he did non make. People easy judged him even though they did non cognize the truth. Towards the terminal of the narrative. he was still non given any justness. This mirrors the job of the society wherein justness is non being sensible. Some felons are off from punishments. while the guiltless people are being punished and are going the victims. Peoples easy believe in rumours and give accusals instantly without inquiring for the existent narrative.
